How to Use Palette from Image

  1. 1Upload your image. Click the upload area, drag and drop a file, or paste from your clipboard with Ctrl+V. JPG, PNG, WebP, and GIF are all supported.
  2. 2Pick colors by clicking on the image. Move your mouse over the image to see a live color preview. Click anywhere to add that exact color to your palette. The hex code is copied automatically.
  3. 3Set your palette size. Choose 4, 5, 6, 8, or 10 colors. This controls both the maximum number of colors you can pick and how many the auto-extraction generates.
  4. 4Use Re-Extract for new palettes. Not happy with the auto-generated palette? Click Re-Extract to generate a fresh set of dominant colors. Click it as many times as you like.
  5. 5Copy or export your palette. Click any color strip or hex badge to copy that single color. Use the action buttons to copy all HEX values at once, generate CSS custom properties, or download the palette as a PNG image.

What Is a Color Palette from Image?

A color palette from image is a curated set of dominant colors extracted automatically from a photograph, illustration, or screenshot. Instead of guessing which colors work together, the tool analyzes the actual pixel data of your image and pulls out the most visually prominent hues — giving you an accurate, data-driven palette in seconds.

This approach is used by designers, developers, and content creators to create cohesive color schemes that are already proven to work together in a real visual context. Whether you are building a website, designing a brand identity, creating social media graphics, or styling a mobile app, starting with colors from an actual image ensures visual harmony and consistency.

Our tool goes beyond basic extraction. You can click anywhere on the image to hand-pick exact colors, adjust the number of colors in your palette, and re-generate palettes until you find the perfect combination. Everything runs entirely in your browser using the Canvas API — no image data is ever uploaded to a server, making it fully private and secure.

When to Use an Image Color Palette

Website and app design. Extract colors from a hero image or product photo to build a matching UI theme. Your buttons, backgrounds, and accents will naturally complement the main visual.

Brand identity and style guides. Pull a brand palette from a logo, mood board, or inspiration image. This ensures every asset — from business cards to social media posts — uses consistent, harmonious colors.

Presentation and document design. Match your slide backgrounds, charts, and text highlights to the imagery in your presentation for a polished, professional look.

Social media and content creation. Create visually unified Instagram grids, YouTube thumbnails, or blog headers by extracting a consistent color scheme from your source imagery.

Data visualization. Build accessible, visually distinct chart colors by extracting a palette from a reference image and adjusting for contrast and readability.
