En France, l'impression offset commerciale exige 300 DPI. Une affiche A3 (297 × 420 mm) nécessite 3 508 × 4 961 px à 300 DPI. Les photographes de mode à Paris (Vogue France, Elle, Marie Claire) livrent leurs images en 300 PPI, espace colorimétrique CMJN, format TIFF. Pour le web et les réseaux sociaux, 72 PPI suffisent, mais les écrans Retina d'Apple exigent des images en 144 ou 216 PPI (2× ou 3×). La différence DPI (nombre de points d'encre par pouce imprimé) vs PPI (pixels par pouce de l'image) est cruciale en prépresse.
