In der Gebäudeplanung (Architekten, Lichtplaner) wird der Tageslichtquotient berechnet — die DIN 5034 definiert die Anforderungen an Tageslicht in Innenräumen. Pflanzenzucht unter LED-Lampen (indoor grows for Basilikum oder Tomaten) wird in lx oder PPFD gemessen. Smart-Home-Systeme (Homematic IP, Philips Hue) ermöglichen die Automatisierung basierend auf Helligkeitssensoren in Lux.
