In der deutschen Druckindustrie wurde historisch mit dem Cicero (12,83 Didot-Punkte ≈ 4,512 mm) gearbeitet — der Duden und die Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung setzten jahrzehntelang auf diese Maße. Heute ist das angloamerikanische Point-System (1 pt = 1/72 Zoll) der Standard in InDesign, QuarkXPress und Figma. Ein Web-Designer in Deutschland arbeitet in px (16 px für Fließtext), ein Layouter in pt (12 pt für Fließtext). Die Umrechnung: 1 pt = 1,333 px bei 96 DPI. WCAG-Konformität (BITV) verlangt skalierbare Schrift. In den Corporate-Design-Manuals von Volkswagen, Siemens, SAP oder Allianz werden Schriftgrößen sowohl in pt (Print) als auch in px (Digital) definiert. Die DIN 16507 regelt die Schriftgrößen in der Drucktechnik. Deutsche Websites (spiegel.de, zeit.de, tagesschau.de) nutzen CSS-Rem-Einheiten für responsives Design.
