実用的なユースケース

日本の印刷業界では、かつて「号」という独自の文字サイズ体系が使われていました(初号42pt、五号10.5pt、八号5ptなど)。現在はポイント(pt)とQ(級)が主流です。DTPでは1Q = 0.25mmと定義され、PhotoshopやIllustratorでの文字サイズはQとptの両方で設定できます。1pt = 約0.353mm。Webデザインではピクセル(px)が基本で、FigmaやXDのデザインカンプはpx単位。一般的な本文サイズは16px(12pt相当)です。InDesignで雑誌や書籍を制作する際、Q表示が標準で使われています。CSSではrem、em、vw、vhなどの相対単位が使われ、レスポンシブ対応にはpxとremの相互変換が欠かせません。日本語組版では、文字サイズに加えて「行送り」の単位もQとptの両方が存在します。アクセシビリティ対応では、最小文字サイズがWCAG 2.1で規定され、特にスマホでは16px以上が推奨されています。JIS Z 8305(邦文タイプライター用語)など、日本の組版規格も単位換算の基準となります。印刷会社への入稿時は「Q数」指定が一般的です。
